Firefox is changing to a four-week update cycle

With faster updates, Mozilla will also make new features and APIs faster. The new schedule is expected to come into effect early next year.

Firefox currently receives new releases every 6-8 weeks on desktop platforms and Android, with stable releases ahead of Firefox Nightly, Beta, and Developer Edition. So Mozilla has now switched to a four-week update cycle – according to the organization, there has been a demand from users several times in recent months for new features to be released to the market, which will be enabled by faster updates.

The organization plans to migrate to the new schedule in the first quarter of 2020, releasing a new version of Firefox every four weeks. Shorter update cycles will allow Mozilla to anticipate more flexible planning and, if necessary, easier prioritization to meet market needs. Not only users, but also developers, who have faster access to implementations of various web APIs, will be pleased to release new features faster. As ZDNet points out, Firefox is leaving behind the standard six-week release cycle of Google Chrome.
