Edifier TWS2 Review

3 min read

Edifier combines the true trend of wireless headphones with one of the cheapest pairs we have tried recently. Edifier TWS2 headphones sound clear among most competitors in the in-ear wireless sector. Booming bass fans will be disappointed, but those looking for a balanced and somewhat accurate sound signature should be happy. In addition to audio performance, the TWS2 has little to offer in the functional department. Usually, there are more attractive options, but for the price, it is a solid purchase.

The conception
Like all true wireless options, Edifier includes two headphones and a charging case that magnetically connects the headphones. The headphones, available in black, red or white plastic like an eggshell, are marked on the outside with the Edifier logo. The lightweight headphones fit securely and comfortably during long periods of hearing and come with a total of three pairs of earplugs in small, medium and large. Internally, there is an 8mm magnetic controller in each handset that offers a frequency range of 20 Hz to 20 kHz.

In terms of control over the ear, both ears have a single button. Press one of the buttons to play or pause the music, press the left handset twice to explore a track and press the right to advance a track. Tap your ear once to answer or end calls, then tap three times to start your device’s voice assistant. The status LEDs on both headphones indicate when they are charged, lightly charged or paired, and the LEDs outside the case indicate the battery life they have saved.

The headphones have IPX4 protection, which means they can withstand the spraying of light or mist, but do not immerse or expose them to water pressure. If you are looking for real WiFi options suitable for gymnastics, you will find a much higher IP index than this.

The case itself is one of the smallest models we have seen. It has a hinged cover and a micro USB port on the back for the supplied charging cable. Like headphones, it has an eggshell sheen.

The headphones have a battery life of approximately 3 hours per charge, and the case provides an additional battery life of 9 hours. These numbers are not large, but they are not far from the center of the road for this category.

Performances
On tracks with intense subwoofer content such as “The Silent Shout” by The Knife, the headphones provide a commendable low frequency response, without exaggeration, but certainly complete and rich. The bass is not distorted at careless listening levels, and at more moderate levels, the bass is still powerful and well balanced with the treble.

The built-in microphone offers little intelligibility. The tone was more or less clear, but the microphone level was quite low, to the point that it sometimes seemed to fail. If you can hear the sound, the microphone provides a typical Bluetooth wireless microphone experience: clear enough to understand, but not excellent.

Conclusions
The Edifier TWS2 headphones will appeal to those looking for real wireless headphones that deliver somewhat accurate sound instead of the amplified audio geared to the bass we hear on most real wireless models. However, even for the relatively low price, things are a bit exciting: nothing really stands out badly or well.
