Android antivirus products under surveillance: which are the best to stop new malicious applications?

If there is a clear message that you can remove Android security products from the latest test, relying on Google to protect your smartphone is not enough.

Independent anti-malware testing lab AV-Test tested 17 Android security apps, including Google Play Protect built into Android, against nearly 6,700 malicious apps.

3,300 of the malicious applications were considered “new”: they were discovered in the last 24 hours. The rest of the malware, known as the “referral phrase,” has been compromised by what AV-Test calls “particularly popular applications that have been in use for up to four weeks.”

Six of the 17 applications tested (Antiy AVL, Bitdefender Mobile Security, Cheetah Security Master, Norton 360, Trend Micro Mobile Security and Kaspersky Internet Security for Android) achieved a 100% perfect real-time detection rate compared to “completely new ” malicious applications and additional reference phrase.

However, Google’s Play Protect lags far behind with a detection rate of just 37% against new malware in the last 24 hours and 33% against Android malware in the last four weeks.

To make matters worse, Google Play Protect incorrectly and incorrectly alarmed 30 harmless apps and identified them as malicious.

From my experience, what worries me is that most Android users do not have a security application installed on their phone, perhaps assuming it is not necessary or it is more complicated than it is worth.

Despite these disappointing results for Google Play Protect, keep in mind that one of the best things Android users can do to reduce exposure to malicious apps is to install only apps from the official Google Play market. , not third party source applications.
